Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that affects many people during the autumn and winter months, when daylight hours are shorter. It is estimated that approximately 6% of the population in northern regions suffer from SAD, while another 14% experiencing milder symptoms, sometimes known as the "winter blues." The most common symptoms of SAD include fatigue, depression, anxiety, hypersomnia, carbohydrate cravings, and weight gain.

For many years, the most common treatment for SAD was light therapy, which involves exposing the person to bright light for several hours each day.
